ASVEL and Strasbourg faces each other in the 2016 Pro A Finals and now they will clash once more, this time in the league’s semis.
Showing the character and mettle of the defending champion, ASVEL won yet another road game against first-seeded in regular season Monaco to qualify in the semifinals after 2 – 1 in the series.
Villeurbanne beat its opponents 74 – 71 thanks to a 4/4 from the line by Charles Kahudi in the final minute of the match. Jamal Shuler missed the attempt to tie the match and a season that started with huge ambitions for the Monegasques ended in disappointing fashion.
Kahudi finished with 12 points plus 7 rebounds while Darryl Watkins paced ASVEL with a double-double of 20 points/12 rebounds. DeMarcus Nelson added 12 points plus 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Strasbourg took a 72 – 68 victory over Orthez and also the ticket to the next stage with a 2 – 1 record. Erving Walker had 18 points, Romeo Travis 13 and 7 rebounds and Erik Murphy also 13 points.
John Cox scored 16 and Alain Kofi 14 for the team from Pau that began the series with a road win yet suffered two defeats in a row.
