AS Monaco couldn’t bounce back after losing the Final of the Basketball Champions Leauge against AEK as they lost a game French Pro A League against Pau-Lacq-Orthez at home 86-85. The visiting squad ended six games winning streak by Monaco in the Pro A League.
Pau-Lacq-Orthez was the better team tonight especially down the last stretch when a game was on the line. With 5 minutes left in the last quarter, Monaco was up by 2 points (71-69). However, their captain Amara Sy turned the ball twice as that led the visiting squad to a 9-0 run. That was a breaking point as Monaco couldn’t escape the loss after it. They were able to cut the deficit down to only one point, but that was all. Zvezdan Mitrovic’s team was struggling from the foul line as they missed 11 free throws (16/27 for one) and that cost them dearly.
Vitalis Chikoko led the winning side with 19 points while Gerald Robinson had 14 points for Monaco. Despite the loss, Monaco is still standing on the top of the Pro A League with a 24-8 record.
On Monday Nanterre beat Gravelines while on Tuesday Boulazac took down Bourg.
