Following the qualification rounds and the two Top 8 stages at the Arena Loire Trelaze, the 2018-19 French Cup season concluded on Saturday at Paris. At the packed AccorHotels Arena, LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne defeated Le Mans, 70-61.
The first French Cup triumph since 2008 saw 17-year-old Theo Maledon land the Finals MVP honors. The young French point guard finished with a team-high 13 points, grabbed a couple of boards, dished a pair of helpers and drew three fouls as well.
Le Mans was up 35-26 at halftime, but couldn’t hold on in the Final. Tony Parker’s team not only stormed back into the lead but built a double-digit advantage down the stretch to secure the invaluable “W”.
SIG Strasbourg secured the French Leaders Cup title in February. The Jeep Elite Pro A Championship remains up for grabs with Villeurbanne having all but secured home-court advantage for the playoffs with its 25-7 W-L record so far.
