ASVEL Villeurbanne finished the French League regular season at the top of the standings and proceeded to open its playoffs run with a win.
Miro Bilan scored 17 points and Adreian Payne added 15 points and seven rebounds as ASVEL defeated Le Mans 73 – 67 in Game 1 of the quarterfinals.
Kendrick Ray, who plays with Le Mans on loan from Maccabi Tel Aviv, had 23 points for Le Mans.
Dijon routed Strasbourg 94 – 62 in the other Pro A playoffs game held Saturday (25/5). Axel Holston scored 16 points and dished out seven assists while Axel Julien had 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
For Strasbourg, Ali Traore notched 16 points and five rebounds.
