ASVEL Villeurbanne beat AS Monaco 81 – 71 in Game 1 of the French Jeep Elite League Finals. to take the 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Livio Jean-Charles scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds in an overall strong defensive team effort by ASVEL. AJ Slaughter and Mantas Kalnietis added 13 points apiece.
For Monaco, Eric Buckner had 13 points and Gerland Robinson 13 and five rebounds.
Before the game, four-time NBA champion and ASVEL president Tony Parker received a standing ovation by players, coaches and fans. Parker announced his retirement earlier in June.
