Sheikh Mbodj suffered a double fracture on his jaw and cheekbone after getting into a physical altercation with Justin Carter in the game between Pau-Lacq-Orthez and Roanne this past Saturday.
Roanne’s Carter attacked Mbodj for unspecified reasons and the combat ended painfully for the latter.
“It’s a bit more serious than we thought at the moment,” said Pau-Lacq-Orthez coach Laurent Vila. He is expected to stay out of action between four and six weeks, as reported by L’Equipe.
Carter, later on, wrote an apology on his Instagram stories, addressing his team and Mbodj.
“I am sorry for the way things escalated and my reaction. This is not the real Justin Carter. I’m thirty-two years old, I played in ten countries and I had never been expelled. I promise you that such a thing will never happen again.”
Still, the Roanne player will face the appropriate disciplinary procedures for his actions in front of a committee on Tuesday evening, as L’Equipe further informs.
