Fenerbahce outlasts Darussafaka, wins second straight Turkish Cup

Fenerbahce BEKO and Darussafaka Tekfen clashed in the Turkish Cup Final and, as was the case in 2016, Fener once again got a narrow 74-71 win and the trophy, their second straight and seventh overall.

Jan Vesely put Fenerbahce ahead 68-66 with a minute remaining but he also made his fifth foul soon after on the other side. He was called for an unsportsmanlike foul on Kartal Ozmizrak, however, after a bit of a stir up by both squads, Darussafaka’s Jonathan Hamilton got the same call by the referees and the penalties got canceled out with Fener getting the possession.

And then Kostas Sloukas took the matter into his own hands. He got sent to the foul line three times and scored all six of his free throws to keep Fener ahead despite Darussafaka hitting a triple and a layup.

Sloukas finished the game with 15 points as did Nando De Colo and Luigi Datome while for Darussafaka, Hamilton notched a double-double with 2o points and ten boards in addition to Bonzie Colson’s 13 and nine.
