Anadolu Efes star guard Shane Larkin questioned the decision of the Turkish BSL League to continue holding games amidst the coronavirus epidemic.
“In no way, I do mean any disrespect to any of the decision-makers that are responsible for handling this coronavirus pandemic, but I do not understand why the Turkish League is continuing to play when every other league in the world is either suspended or canceled,” Larkin wrote on a post that was uploaded on his social media profiles.”
The Turkish BSL is the only major basketball league in Europe where games are still played. All matches are held behind closed doors.
Larkin isn’t the only Turkish League player who has openly expressed his opposition to matches being played. Fenerbahce Beko’s Bobby Dixon and Malcolm Thomas plus Galatasaray’s Zach Auguste also reacted on social media.
Earlier this year, Larkin was officially granted Turkish citizenship and was named to the Turkish national team.
As of Friday the 13th, VTB League, the Israeli Winner League, and the Lithuanian LKL suspended all action. The latter actually already crowned a champion: Standings leader Zalgiris Kaunas.
