Turkish Youth and Sports minister dr. Mehmet Kasapoglu will meet with the heads of the soccer, basketball and volleyball federation plus the president of the Association of Soccer Clubs on Thursday (19/3) noon to “assess the course” of the coronavirus outbreak.
The Turkish BSL League is the only basketball championship in Europe that is still holding games. Most recently, the British BBL League suspended all action while the Russian Federation announced that the league will be postponed starting from March 20.
A couple of prominent basketball players in Turkey, like Anadolu Efes‘ Shane Larkin or Fenerbahce Beko’s Bobby Dixon, have spoken against BSL continuing to take place. The players of Galatasaray have also issued a joint statement asking for the league to take “extreme action.”
