Both the Turkish powerhouses Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahce Beko reacted to the decision of the Turkish Federation to cancel the remainder of the 2019-2020 BSL League by emphasizing on how the health of every person involved is more important than any endgame goal.
“Our club respects this decision that was taken to protect the health and safety of athletes, coaches, officials and fans. For Anadolu Efes, the health of our people is more valuable than all championships and achievements,” Efes stated. The team was at the top of the BSL standings when the season shut down and was considered the frontrunner to win the championship and the back-to-back title.
Fenerbahce mentioned that: “We welcome this decision that is in line with the agenda of our club that says that human health is more important than championships, trophies and everything.” Coach Zeljko Obradovic‘s team was fourth at 17 – 5.
BSL was previously the last basketball championship in Europe to suspend its action. The league was initially postponed in March 19.
While the season in Turkey is over, Efes and Fenerbahce are waiting to see if EuroLeague resumes. The organization is expected to take a final decision on whether to hold a final phase (the six remaining regular-season games and a Final Eight tournament) in the following days.
