Anadolu Efes was a feast for the eyes in Saturday’s showdown against Afyon Belediye, in which they prevailed 140-83 on the road.
Efes got a headstart in the game with a record-breaking 46 points scored in the first period, leaving Belediyesi stunned. The hosts fought back in the second quarter though the deficit rose to 75-33 at halftime. It should be noted that Belediye has decided to continue the season with youth players, due to financial struggles.
Efes played without Shane Larkin, Rodrigue Beaubois and Vasilije Micic and was led by Yigitcan Saybir, who posted a triple-double with 43 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. Omercan Ilyasoglu recorded another triple-double with 24 points, 14 rebounds, and 13 assists, and Tolga Gecim was added to the list of top scorers with 26 points.
Erten Gazi also contributed 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and Filip Petrusev had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Onur Ozkapici tapped 25 points for Belediye, Bilgehan Diril followed with 22 points and Huseyin Cevirgen had 21 points.
Later on Saturday, Fenerbahce prevailed over Galatasaray 86-76 in the Turkish League classic. Melih Mahmutoglu fired up 22 points for the winners, Nando De Colo posted 19, while Jan Vesely followed with a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds.
DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell led Galatasaray with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Dee Bost also posted 19 points and Melo Trimble finished the game with 12 points.
