Due to the recent COVID-19 cases that were registered among Galatasaray’s roster, the team’s Basketball Champions League matchups were postponed.
However, despite still having six positive cases after re-testing, the Turkish Basketball Federation decided that Galatasaray’s game against Anadolu Efes will not be postponed despite the club’s request.
With that in mind, Galatasaray released a statement, noting that the team will have to use the players who have re-tested positive for coronavirus in order to play the game (February 6).
Per Galatasaray Nef:
“As it is known, as a result of several different athletes showing symptoms last week, covid was detected in 9 of our athletes and our FIBA Basketball Champions League matches, which were supposed to be played during the week, were postponed.
Finally, in the control tests conducted separately yesterday and today (Feb. 4-5), it was determined that the covid positive status of 6 of our athletes continued, and the Turkish Basketball Federation and our rival Anadolu Efes Sports Club were informed of the situation. An application has been made regarding the fact that the play of the match poses a risk to the health of everyone who will be on the field tomorrow and that it should be postponed.
With the information given by the Turkish Basketball Federation, we have received a notification that the match will be played in accordance with the current covid procedures, despite all the applications made by us.
Since we have only 6 healthy athletes as of now, our athletes whose covid positive conditions continue will need to be on the court tomorrow.
We present the issue to the public”
