Isaiah Canaan parted ways with Unics Kazan and signed a contract for the rest of the season with Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray, the club announced. The 30-year-old former NBAer is one of the several players who have terminated their contracts with Russian clubs in the aftermath of the Ukraine invasion.
Canaan was the third-leading scorer for Unics in EuroLeague with 11.8 points, before the team was removed from the competition, along with fellow Russian sides CSKA Moscow and Zenit St. Petersburg. In the VTB League, Canaan had 14.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.
Unics first signed Canaan in 2020 to bring him to Europe for the first time in his career after a six-year stint in the NBA. After a standout run in the 2020-21 EuroCup (14.1 points, 3.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds), he penned a one-year extension last summer.
