Escaping Mentese Spor Salonu behind Scottie Wilbekin’s go-ahead three-pointer, Fenerbahce Beko went up to 13-3 in the Turkiye Sigorta Basketbol Super Ligi Regular Season.
Team captain Melih Mahmutoglu put in seven three-pointers and a total of 27 points for a narrow win, 93-92, against Cagdas Bodrum Spor in Round 16 on Sunday. En route to a new individual best in the 2023-24 campaign, he scored 20 points after the break, including 12 in the third quarter.
Forcing the last lead change with 27.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Wilbekin registered 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and dished out eight assists. For the hosts, Jaron Johnson set a new season-high at 29 points.
A fifth straight win across all competitions, including improving to 13-8 in the Regular Season of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Johnathan Motley, Metecan Birsen, Nigel Hayes-Davis, Marko Guduric, Tyler Dorsey, Nick Calathes, and Raul Neto were sidelined for various reasons.
Anadolu Efes takes down Buyukcekmece with a big fourth-quarter run
The defending champions retained the top spot in the standings, thanks to a 70-79 win over Buyukcekmece on the road.
The hosts were leading after three quarters, but then Efes made a 13-0 run at the start of the final period, took control, and improved to 14-2.
Dan Oturu led the winning side with 17 points, while Mike Daum and Darius Thompson added 15 points each, with the former Tortona player being two rebounds shy of a double-double. Ridvan Oncel followed with 11 points, while Elijah Bryant added 10 points.
Alex Perez stood out for the hosts with 20 points and seven assists, but only Evan Bruinsma with 14 and Malcolm Thomas with 12 points and nine rebounds followed.
