Fenerbahce Dogus suffered more than expected to get an important win over Pinar Karsiyaka 74 – 69 on the road. Brad Wanamaker led the winners with 16 points while Melih Mahmutoglu contributed with 14.
It was a defensive game and Fenerbahce struggled to find their rhythm. Zeljko Obradovic’s team was leading just 34 – 29 at the break. Marko Banic (12 points) and DJ Kennedy (22 points and 6 boards) reduced the deficit but the Turkish champions were still in the lead with one quarter left (55 – 49).
Karsiyaka took a 60 – 62 advantage with 4 minutes left but the guests reacted soon enough to avoid the upset.
Fenerbahce improved to a 17-3 record to tie Tofas at the top of standings.
Also, Sonny Weems continues “on fire” in the Turkish league. After an impressive debut with Efes, the forward contributed to the 98 – 91 victory over Trabzonspor with 26 points and 6 assists.
