Fenerbahce will defend the Turkish League title in the Finals after beating Banvit 84 – 73 on the road in Game 3 of the semifinals and sweeping the series 3-0.
It was a team effort on offense for Zeljko Obradovic‘s players since five of them scored in double figures. Brad Wanamaker led with 16 points, including the jump-shot dagger for the 80 – 69 with one minute remaining, Melih Mahmutoglu and Jan Vesely 14 points apiece while Jason Thompson added 11 points plus seven rebounds and Bobby Dixon 10 points.
Damian Kulig had a season-high 28 points for Banvit that didn’t manage to be as competitive as in the first two semifinal games that were decided in the last seconds (Game 1) and overtime (Game 2).
Fenerbahce stormed into the game with a furious 16 – 27, and one minute into the second half they were up by 20, 30 – 50. Banvit chewed a considerable part of this deficit but they were left out of juice in the final minutes. With the score 69 – 76 and two minutes remaining, Wanamaker to seal Banvit’s end of the season and his team’s entrance to the next stage.
