Prometey built up a high-quality roster for the 2021-22 campaign with the clear intention and goal of fighting for the titles on all fronts.
So far it has been going perfectly in the Ukrainian League where they’ve been to an amazing 17-0 start. However, when it comes to the Basketball Champions League, things weren’t going as easy.
The team managed to get past the qualifiers and into the group stage but whether they’ll go even further in their debut season will be decided in the upcoming Play-In.
Prometey secured a spot in the Play-In by taking down (and eliminating) Dinamo Sassari which they’ve also beaten earlier in the season.
While Promtey boasts quite a few familiar star names, one of the crucial and the most consistent players has been DJ Kennedy.
He was a key factor as Prometey logged a join-biggest victory for a team in BCL this season so far and handed Sassari the biggest defeat in the competition.
Kennedy put on 16 points and 11 rebounds, and while there have been more explosive performances, the experienced 32-year-old’s consistency is something to boast about, but he’s stayed humble, handing out the praise to the whole team.
“I think it was a great team effort, really liked how we came out and were locked in from the beginning to the end. You could tell that the team was locked in on both ends. Everybody showed up and was a part of the team today. We got the ‘W’,” Kennedy said.
His double-double performance against the Italians marked his ninth such performance in the competition and he is now topping the BCL all-time list.
Yanick Moreira and Jordan Morgan follow with eight to their names. Kennedy’s 11 defensive rebounds also mark his fourth game with ten or more. That makes it a joint-best tally together with Michal Sokolowski.
This season, Kennedy posted a total of two double-doubles in five games so far and he will have a chance to improve the all-time lead in at least three more games. And if he succeeds in doing so, Prometey will without a doubt stick around for a while longer and compete for the top.
