Panathinaikos celebrated its first road win in the Euroleague after eight months showing excellent coaching rationale in its game against Karsiyaka with James Gist being the most desicive playn in the game.
The experienced coach Giorgos Ketselidis analyses through video for Eurohoops.net, Greens’ victory over Karsiyaka focusing on the key points of the game.
“First of all, I apologise because I didn’t include videos from the third quarter because of a technical problem. Karsiyaka in the 1st and 2nd quarter didn’t have patience in the offense and didn’t pass the ball. In contrary with Panathinaikos who made it, “reading” the game well. Panathinaikos built a big advantage during the game, of 12-point in the first quarter. But they lost every one of the rest and especially the third and fourth. Sasha’s Djordjevic’s players during all the game were patient, were reading the game and passing the ball with their best moment the 3-point shot by Calathes.
Karsiyaka was shooting bad beyond the arc (10/25) and awful from the free throw line. With 9/18 free throws you can’t win teams of Panathinaikos’ level even at home, in an extremely hot atmosphere. The 3-point shots in the start of the game destroyed Karsiyaka, but in the fourth quarter helped them and was so little away from being the turning point of the game.
As soon as Palacios “hit” Raduljica on his slow legs with drive, Djordjevic reacted replacing with with James Gist. He did the same when Karsiyaka in the fourth quarter showed that wanted to take advantage of the strength and the talent of Gonlum near the basket against Fotsis. He replaced also with Gist. Gist was on my opinion the best player in offense and defense. In the fourth quarter he played as center in the offense and was attacking with pick and pop in order to confuse Karsiyaka’s defense. In that way he scored by himself or he created for his teammates.
Iverson beat Raduljica and Kuzmic being the leading scorer of Karsiyaka.
Also, I was impressed by the superficiality of Karsiyaka and the lack of concetration in defense, which Nick Calathes took advantage scoring 4 easy points.
Karsiyaka tried to change the rythm of the game and steal the ball with delay press in the second quarter and agreessive zone press in the fourth.
