France received an automatic berth as host. Seven more countries, South Sudan from Africa, Canada and the United States from the Americas, Japan from Asia, Germany and Serbia from Europe, and Australia from Oceania, qualified based on their ranking in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The four remaining berths were awarded through the recent FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in Piraeus, Riga, San Juan, and Valencia with Greece, Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Spain completing the field.

The advancing national teams and projected OQT winners were split into three groups of four in March, setting up the schedule of the Olympics.
