The Italian coach of Zalgiris Kaunas in an interview with Eurohoops about the present and the future of European basketball, about life and (of course)… wine!

By Giorgos Adamopoulos / gadamopoulos@eurohoops.net

If you think Andrea Trinchieri is just a basketball coach, you are obviously wrong. The Italian coach of Zalgiris Kaunas likes to consider himself a “citizen of the world” and likes to prove it at every opportunity .

Just like his latest interview with Eurohoops, talking not only about his Zalgiris team in this season’s Euroleague, but analyzing the present and the future of European basketball and referring to significant topics of life and, of course… wine!

Andrea Trinchieri explains why there is no basketball justice and stresses the difficulty of the Euroleague’s no-powerhouses to “build” their roster. He notes why the league is… too old and looks forward to the upcoming Financial Fair Play, but with some initial doubts about its implementation.

He shares his comments and acknowledgments on the owners of Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Fener and his characteristic narrative of the “Greens” winning the trophy last season. He also talks about the importance of Nikos Zisis and Vassilis Spanoulis‘ presence in the Greek national team.

Coach Trinchieri points out why emotions “must” go hand in hand with professionalism, gives his own definitions of success, ambition and (unpleasant) choices and reveals how he solved – through… wine – an argument with George Bartzokas.
