Following Round 22 of the 2024-25 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season and a winning effort against Real Madrid, Luca Vildoza shared his reaction to a perfect double-game week with Eurohoops.
“I think so,” he agreed to Olympiacos making a statement by beating Baskonia in Fernando Buesa Arena on Tuesday and prevailing in Movistar Arena on Thursday.
The Reds improved to a league-high 16-6, two games clear of second-placed Fenerbahce Beko. Tied at third place in the standings, AS Monaco, Panathinaikos Aktor, and Paris are three games away.
“We showed we can do great things, by beating Madrid in Madrid against the odds, knowing that they were playing really well lately,” he added focusing on the latest success for the team coached by Giorgos Barzokas, “It’s just a great job we did. We did a great job in defense and rebounding. And then we have a nice French guy that can score a lot.”
French superstar Evan Fournier was the top performer with 28 points behind 9/17 field goals against Los Blancos.
With Thomas Walkup (back) and Tyler Dorsey (illness) missing the two-game week, besides Keenan Evans (knee) and Moses Wright (illness) remaining sidelined, the situation heading to the road trip in Spain was far from ideal. “Everyone made a step forward,” pointed out Vildoza, describing the reaction of the available players.
“Controlling Facu,” he labeled limiting Round 21 MVP Facundo Campazzo to seven points, four assists, and four rebounds as the key to a win in the Spanish capital, “He couldn’t play comfortably. It is hard to drive against our bigs. I think we did a great job on him.”
On to Round 15 of Greece’s Stoiximan GBL Regular Season, his side is up against his former team, Panathinaikos, in OAKA Altion on Monday.
“It is going to be tough,” he told Eurohoops, “It is always nice to play there with their people. For me, it’s special. I was there last year. We must continue in this way and go there and get the victory.”
