How does Gordon Herbert approach his coaching responsibilities?
The head coach of FC Bayern Munich sat down with Eurohoops to talk about applying sports psychology to his players and individual progress. He also recounted his successful stint with the German senior national team and returning to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
After 23 out of the 34 games of the Regular Season, Bayern is placed inside the Play-in Showdown zone. A 13-10 tally is merely one game ahead of elimination but also tied at the lowest seed leading directly to the Playoffs.
“I hope there is a Cinderella story,” he pointed out with a smile referring to other teams, including Bayern, potentially challenging Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, and other stronger favorites.
In a rewind to his spell with Aris in Greece during the 2007-28 season, the 65-year-old tactician praised current Olympiacos captain Kostas Papanikolaou, then in high school, as eager to join the practices of the senior team and learn as much as possible. The interview extended to explaining his opinion on Vassilis Spanoulis and others coming out of a playing career to become coaches.
“I wasn’t sure at first but I am glad I did,” he confessed to Eurohoops about including depression issues in a book titled ‘The boys gave me my life back’ released last summer.
