He could already be addressed as a star but being just 18 years old, the characterization of Rising Star suits him better, as the writers of Eurohoops almost unanimously agreed. We are talking, of course, about Luka Doncic.

Real Madrid’s Slovenian point forward is the best there is at his age and his actions on the court are the best arguments to support this view. It’s no coincidence that he was… way ahead of everyone else – virtually alone – in Eurohoops’ poll for the Rising Star.

With all… but one vote, the title is rightfully his.

The Spanish teams have a tradition in this award category, as they officially count 5/12 in the EuroLeague, with the last winner being Alex Abrines of Barcelona then and of the Oklahoma City Thunder now.

Luka Doncic (Real Madrid): Votes 22
8.1 pts | 4.5 rbs | 4.3 as | 0.9 st | 0.2 bl | 1.7 to | | 19:54 min | 13.9 PIR

At 18 years of age, he already has the world at his feet. Luka Doncic is dazzling on the court, even when he does the simplest things, and he has managed to become a benchmark in Real Madrid’s game. His full stats vindicate Pablo Laso for the opportunities he has given him and the trust he has shown him and, by extension, all those who think he’s going to go very high.

Ante Zizic (Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul): Vote 1
9 pts | 6.7 rbs | 0.4 as | 0.2 st | 0.8 bl | 1.3 to | 21:51 | 13.3 PIR

He made the surprise with the one vote he… stole from Luka Doncic, but he certainly hasn’t surprised anyone with everything he does on the court, since he’s just confirming what everyone thinks of him. The 20-year-old Croatian center joined Darussafaka (from Cibona) in late 2016 and he got to work immediately. Next season he might get work in the NBA too (#23 from the Celtics last year).
