Olympiacos are “veterans” in the EuroLeague as they have been in the competition from its first season, haven’t missed a single season since, and in the away game against Fenerbahce they will become just the second team to complete 400 appearances in the competition.

6.255 days after their maiden appearance in the then newly created EuroLeague, which took place at the Pabellon Raimundo Saporta in Madrid against Real (a 75-73 defeat for the Reds), the Piraeus team will play their 400th game in the modern era of the competition. A course that, so far, contains everything. Huge successes but also periods of decline, moments of glory but also plenty of disappointments make up the Greek team’s course among the best so far.

Olympiacos, together with Baskonia, Zalgiris Kaunas and Barcelona, are the organizations that have been participating non-stop in the competition. The fans of the Reds should feel very proud, as they support one of the team-legends that has gotten used to having a leading role in the toughest league of the Old Continent.

11 appearances in quarterfinals, six Final Fours, two trophies

Besides, this is what the numbers also tell us. A fact that is indicative of this is that the Piraeus team counts 11 appearances in the quarterfinals from the 2004-2005 season onwards when the playoff series in the top 8 was established. In other words, their participation rate in the top 8 of the EuroLeague is 84,6% (11/13), occupying the top spot of the relevant table, together with the Catalans.

They also have six appearances in the Final Four (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017), which makes them fourth, behind CSKA Moscow (14), Maccabi Tel Aviv and Barcelona (7 each), while they are tied with Panathinaikos.

In terms of trophies, Olympiacos count two of those (as many as the Blaugrana) in five finals, behind the Greens who have four, and Maccabi and CSKA who have three each.

It seems like Baskonia are the Reds’ favorite opponent, since they encounter them more often than any other, so far counting 21 wins and 14 defeats in 35 clashes. It’s worth noting that, both in the 2012-2013 season as well as last season, the Piraeus team crossed swords with Efes 7 times (!), which makes this the longest battle with any club in the competition in the course of a season.
