While it’s easy to assume it’s better to work together than against each other in any area of human activity, the situation in European basketball can be measured and assessed.
The man who did it is Cem Karamürsel, alumni of Euroleague Basketball Institute who currently works for Nike. He is also the creator of the European Basketball Advisory Group, a non-profit initiative for European basketball. And his report about the current situation of the European basketball – one of many reports on various issues of European basketball presented in the site of the initiative – is more than convincing about what needs to be done.
Does it provide us with a solution to the problems created for the sport in Europe? The answer is no, but it does point the way things should be done. It’s up to FIBA and EuroLeague to find some common ground and work together. Or else it’s obvious that basketball which has already taken a step back as a whole due to this debate, will suffer more.
Here’s the full report.
