The rookies of the EuroLeague made things difficult for Eurohoops’ editorial team across all of its editions and, in the end, we chose not one but two players as Rookies of the Year.

One of them saw his and his teammates’ labors be rewarded and will be present in the Final Four. The other one won’t, but this does not diminish his effort in the least. The vote of Eurohoops‘ editorial team across all of its editions – Greek, English, Turkish, Spanish, Russian, German – revealed more than one winner, and together they accumulated more than 50%, but none of them more than the other.

We’re talking about Zalgiris‘s Brandon Davies and Khimki’s Anthony Gill, who, with 26.7% each, left behind them Baskonia‘s Vincent Poirier (16.7%) and seven other rookies.

Maccabi Tel Aviv‘s Norris Cole and Bamberg‘s Dorell Wright followed with 6.7% each, while another 5 players – Zalgiris‘s Aaron White and Axel Toupane, Crvena Zvezda‘s Mathias Lessort, Real Madrid‘s Walter Tavares and Maccabi Tel Aviv‘s Jonah Bolden – got 3.3% each.

BRANDON DAVIES
Zalgiris | Center | 2.08 | 25/07/1991 | USA
9.4 points | 3.3 rebounds | 0.9 assists | 0.9 steals | 0.4 blocks | 1.2 turnovers | 17:08 minutes | 9.8 PIR

Elan Chalon (2015) was his first stop in Europe, Varese (2015-16) his second, and Monaco (2016-17) was the third as well as his passport to the EuroLeague in the colors of Zalgiris. Third in points and rebounds, first in steals and second in blocks among his teammates, Brandon Davies reciprocated the trust he was shown.

ANTHONY GILL
Khimki | Forward | 2.04 | 17/10/1992 | USA
11.8 points | 4.5 rebounds | 1 assist | 0.5 steals | 0.6 blocks | 1.3 turnovers | 25:53 minutes | 13.1 PIR

His first season in Europe (Belediye 2016-17) was also his first as a pro, but it was more than enough to pave the way for a better career. Anthony Gill didn’t let the opportunity go to waste. He was second in points and fourth in rebounds in Khimki’s run to the playoffs.
