Last Tuesday, Keifer Sykes put up 43 points setting a new single-game scoring record for the Basketball Champions League. The 25-year-old American point guard wasn’t enough for Avellino in Turkey against Banvit, despite making six threes, dishing seven assists and grabbing four rebounds, but inserted himself in BCL’s history books.
Jimmy Baron posted 42 points on December 6th 2016 and Martin Zeno tied his record a few weeks later, on January 18th 2017. The duo remained the players with the most points in one Champions League match throughout the rest of the 2016-17 season, all the 2017-18 campaign and up to the 2018-19 Regular Season Gameday 12.
Among the top nine BCL scoring performances, James Feldeine is the only other player with over 35 points in a 2018-19 game. The Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem player notched 35 points in Round 5 to match Bryon Allen’s and Mike Morrison’s seventh place efforts.
