A few days before the Euroleague fiesta gets under way in Madrid, Eurohoops wonders whether there should be an exclusive three-day Final Four period established, whereby, on these days no other national league basketball game will be conducted.
The Euroleague Final Four will take place in the three days from 15 to 17 of May and on these days several national championship games have been scheduled. Should it be forbidden for any other games taking place during those days or at least on 15/5 and 17/5 when the Final Four games will take place?
Yes, this is the climax of the season
The Final Four is the moment that all the fans, the players and the teams in Europe have been waiting all year to experience. These days then belong to the protagonists, the four teams that have reached the final stage to contend for the trophy. The spotlight must be turned on them and all those who are engaged with basketball even at a minimum level to devote themselves to these games. Besides, even the NBA makes room for the Final Four of the college championship (NCAA)…
No, it does not affect the other teams
The Final Four is truly the fiesta of the Euroleague, however the national leagues should not be interrupted since there are not enough dates available and the players need a longer period of rest from the strain of the whole season. Besides, it’s hard to convince a league with no representatives in the Final Four that they shouldn’t conduct any championship games on that day.
The conclusion: All the fans’ attention should be focused on the Final Four
Beyond the innovations that the Euroleague has been introducing in the past years, perhaps they should proceed to make a move that will add more shine to the event of the Final Four. For example, the football authorities, who in several matters of marketing are leading the way, decided to establish the Champions League Final as the last big game of the season in order to give the event an even bigger prestige than it already has. Maybe, then, the Euroleague should “forbid” any competitive action in the national leagues from taking place at least on those two days. Because, in the conscience of every European fan should be planted the impression that on those days the biggest basketball club event in the world, outside of the NBA, is taking place.
