The Los Angeles Lakers combining Anthony Davis with LeBron James already produced an impressive preseason outcome, but European pairings in various NBA teams are getting in line for achievements of their own. Teams pushing towards creating two-man forces was a theme this summer. European stars were part of the process, while other Old Continent representatives remained teammates.
Eurohoops presents the five top European pairings of the 2019-20 season:
Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic – Kristaps Porzingis
Excitement is already building in Dallas. Luka Doncic is coming off his NBA Rookie of the Year showing in the 2018-19 season and this time around will have Kristaps Porzingis by his side. The Latvian big was acquired by the Dallas Mavericks last January, but his ACL injury forced patience to the fans at least up to the new NBA season.
Toronto Raptors
Marc Gasol – Serge Ibaka
No news here. The former teammates in the Spanish national team proved a few months ago able to capture the NBA championship by complimenting each other on the court. Kawhi Leonard is no longer with the Toronto Raptors, but the franchise still has Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka among their powerful weapons.
Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo – Thanasis Antetokounmpo
Giannis Antetokounmpo is shining bright over the Milwaukee Bucks. This year the reigning MVP’s older brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo will be an additional European option for Mike Budenholzer. The newcomer will provide answers in defense and tackle any other obstacle moving his proven and unique determination to the NBA. As for Giannis, the form of his contribution is firmly established.
Chicago Bulls
Lauri Markkanen – Tomas Satoransky
Tomas Satoransky was gunning for an improved role and seems to have stumbled on a great opportunity with the Chicago Bulls following his first three NBA campaigns with the Washington Wizards. At the Windy City, the Czech point guard will meet Finland’s own Lauri Markkanen to form a strong European duo ready to captivate fans in Chicago and beyond.
Orlando Magic
Nikola Vucevic – Evan Fournier
Nikola Vucevic and Evan Fournier are deservedly among our Top 5 European pairings. The Montenegrin big re-signed with the Orlando Magic setting himself up for his eighth season with the Florida franchise, his sixth with the 26-year-old French swingman. More inside and outside European buckets are coming for the Magic.
