BC Kalev/Cramo terminated all contracts with players and is considering closing club operations, per rus.delfi.
Ten days ago, the Estonian team opted to announce its decision to prematurely end its 2019-20 run, prior to the VTB United League canceling the season. The emergency was caused by the coronavirus pandemic and one member of the team testing positive.
“We terminated all contracts with the players,” president Toomas Linamae said to the Estonian Public Broadcasting, “Even with the players that we had contracts beyond this season. We have agreed with half the players and negotiating with the rest.”
Income from ticket sales regarding the games canceled and sponsorship payments usually made at the end of the season threw the team’s budget off and can force Kalev to cease operations. “The club is not only the players. We also have other expenses,” added Linamae.
