Donaldas Kairys opted-out of his contract with Avtodor Saratov, the Russian team announced on Monday. His next head coaching job is expected to be at Rytas Vilnius, according to Donatas Urbonas.
“I am sincerely grateful for the confidence shown and the opportunity to work in Avtodor,” he said, “I liked working at Saratov, I was very happy to be part of the Saratov club. I wish Avtodor success and good luck in its future endeavors.”
The 43-year-old Lithuanian took over as head coach last February following his stint as an assistant at Olympiacos. His contract ran up to the conclusion of the 2020-21 season with the opt-out clause he activated.
Kairys guided his side to a 5-13 record in the VTB United League until the premature ending of the 2019-20 season, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Avtodor will be looking for a new head coach ahead of the next season.
On the other hand, Rytas is among the teams part of the early picture of the Basketball Champions League 2019-20 edition. The Lithuanian team recently parted ways with the previous head coach, Dainius Adomaitis.
