UNICS Kazan caused an upset to Lokomotiv Kuban with a 98-87 overtime win on the road to take a 1-0 lead in the VTB League semifinals on Tuesday.
Multiple scorers finished the game in double digits for Dimitris Priftis’ squad, as John Brown paced the team in the extra five-minute period with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, along with 5 assists. Okaro White and Jamar Smith followed with 17 points each and Pavel Antipov had 15 points.
Isaiah Canaan left the court with 12 points and Nate Wolters added 10 for the winners.
Lokomotiv fought back to trim the margin of UNICS’ lead in the second half and Reggie Lynch evened the score to 79 points with a few seconds remaining to send the game to overtime. The hosts were paced behind a 24-point performance by Kevin Harvey and will look to bounce back in game 2 of the semifinals on Thursday (20/5) in Krasnodar (19:30 CET).
Mindaugas Kuzminskas added 14 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts and Will Cumming left the court with 13.
Earlier this week, CSKA jumped in front to take a 1-0 lead in the semis against Zenit St. Petersburg.
