An incredible game went down in Minsk with CSKA Moscow taking Tsmoki by storm with a 92-44 win, a margin that marks one of the biggest wins in VTB United League history, as well as one of the biggest wins for the Army Team.
CSKA stormed into the first quarter with a 33-11 lead and even though the second quarter was much slower, they managed to dominate their hosts with 46-17 at halftime. Not much changed in the second half, while the deficit rose to the 50-point mark by the end of the third quarter.
Nikola Milutinov led the many scorers for Dimitris Itoudis’ squad with a double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds, Tornike Shengelia posted 13 points, Alexey Shved had 11, while Andrey Lopatin, Iffe Lundberg, Joel Bolomboy and Johannes Voigtmann all added 10 points in this spectacular season opener.
Earlier in the day, UNICS Kazan overcame a 21-point deficit to prevail over Lokomotiv Kuban with a 96-87 win to also start the season on a good note.
John Brown posted a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, Lorenzo Brown led the team in scoring with 20 points, Isaiah Canaan and Andrey Vorontsevich added 14 points each.
On the other end of the court, Stanton Kidd helped Lokomotiv stay in charge in the first half and added 21 points. Andrei Martiuk and Johnathan Motley had 16 points and Darius Thompson followed with 12.
