UNICS Kazan was on a roll in recent weeks across all competition and they were also on a five-game winning streak in VTB League. However, that came to an end with Zenit Saint Petersburg handing them a rather convincing 97-81 defeat.
Billy Baron was the man of the match with 27 points on 6-11 from deep followed by Andrey Zubkov with 21 points and eight rebounds. Arturas Gudaitis scored 14.
For UNICS, Mario Hezonja had 18 points, nine boards and Lorenzo Brown scored 17.
Meanwhile, CSKA Moscow despite some trouble, managed to deliver a late surge and secure a 97-88 home win over Enisey.
Marius Grigonis and Alexey Shved led the way with 16 points each while Will Clyburn scored 15 and Joel Bolomboy 12 points.
CSKA got a scare during the game as Daniel Hackett had to leave the court in pain due to injury but it turned out to be a sprained ankle and shouldn’t keep him out long term.
On the opposing side, Casper Ware was outstanding with 29 points while Darral Willis helped out with 18.
CSKA improved to 7-2, the same record as Zenit, while UNICS hold an 8-2 record. The trio follows behind the first-placed Avtodor Saratov (8-1).
