Zenit St. Petersburg signed forward Sergey Karasev to a new two-year deal, the Russian club announced.
“Of course, I’m very glad that I’m staying in St. Petersburg and will continue to play for Zenit,” Karasev said per the club. “This time we had a great season, I’m very happy to extend the contract for two years. I hope that with our fans we will also win every game. I’ll try my best to make the most of it.”
In 2021-22, Karasev averaged 9.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in the VTB League to help Zenit win the championship for the first time in the history of the club. It was his fourth season with the team after the 2016-2019 period. He then joined Zenit after spending three years in the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets.
“Sergey’s return to Zenit a year ago benefited both the club and the player,” Zenit CEO Alex Tserkovny said. “Therefore, this contract extension is absolutely logical. Sergey played at a very high level at the end of the season and I’m sure that this is far from his full potential.”
