Xavier product Jalen Reynolds will keep playing overseas as the new center of UNICS. He penned a contract for the next season with an option for the 2023-24 season, the team announced Friday.
Reynolds, 29, has enjoyed a successful career playing all around the world since coming out of Xavier in 2016. Italy, Spain, China, Germany, and Israel are among his stops along with a cup of tea in the G League as a member of the Stockton Kings at the end of the 2018-19 season. In this case, he will be back in Russia and return to the VTB United League but skip continental competitions for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
The experienced center played most recently for Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. Completing his second stint at the Israel giant, he produced 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.3 blocks per contest in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. His total of appearances in Europe’s premier club continental competition went up to 86, split between Maccabi and FC Bayern Munich. The resume additionally features 37 appearances in the 7DAYS EuroCup for Pallacanestro Reggiana and Zenit.
In 2018-19, displaying his talents and showcasing his ability to pull down plenty of rebounds at the team based in Saint Petersburg shaped his initial run in the VTB.
“Acquiring Reynolds was a huge boost for us because the five position is extremely important,” noted UNICS head coach Velimir Perasovic, “Jalen carries experience in both EuroLeague and VTB. I have no doubt he will help us on both sides of the court.”
