Mario Hezonja exited UNICS and will continue his career playing for another club, the team based in Kazan announced Tuesday.
“Thank you, UNICS!” he bid farewell via the team’s press release, “It was a pleasure to be with such a great group this season, we were on a path for much, much more until unfortunate circumstances stopped us. We fought to the end and I am proud of every single one of you for your dedication and hard work! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
Hezonja, 27, was expected to join Real Madrid but since denied agreeing with Los Blancos.
Per the press release: “27-year-old Croatian forward Mario HEZONJA, who defended the colors of UNICS, will continue his career at another club.
HEZONJA received the 202-22 VTB United League Regular Season MVP award. He also finished among the top three most productive players of the competition, became the 2022 VTB League dunk contest winner and the All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. In addition, Mario was named the VTB United League MVP in November.
In the VTB-2021/22 United League, HEZONJA played 30 games with UNICS, averaging 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals in 31 minutes on the floor. In 25 Euroleague matches, the forward’s average stats were 14.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.8 assists in 29:37 minutes of playing time.
