Zenit St. Petersburg guard Thomas Heurtel addressed the criticism he has received over his decision to sign with a Russian club amid the war in Ukraine.

In an Instagram story, Heurtel wrote the following: “Just so you know, to all the people who message me or write comments criticizing me for my decision to come to Russia – or decisions in general – please know that I really don’t give a f–k so don’t worry and stop wasting your time. And please, above all, buy yourself a life! Thanks in advance.”

Heurtel, a 12-year EuroLeague veteran, officially joined Zenit after the EuroBasket, where he won the silver medal with the France. He was previously rumored to be in talks with the club prior to the tournament.

In August, the French Basketball Federation decided that all players and coaches who work for Russian and Belarusian clubs while the invasion of Ukraine takes place won’t be considered to be selected for national teams through 2024. French national team captain Evan Fournier voiced his disagreement with this kind of ban.
