Will Barton proves that in sports there are no borders. The 33 years old NBA veteran is moving to CSKA Moscow with a contract until the end of the season, which will be confirmed after he passes the medical exams.
The NBA free agent who ended last season in Toronto after spending the bulk of his career in Portland and Denver moves for the first time in Europe.
However, he will only compete in the VTB League facing teams mainly for Russia as a member of an illustrious club and EuroLeague shareholder, which for the moment is banned from competing in the EuroLeague due to the sanctions impose to Russian sports due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
As he stated via the official CSKA Moscow website: “First of all, I’m grateful for the opportunity to play for this team. I’ve only heard good things about the club and the fans. I’m very glad to have the chance to meet my teammates, coaches, fans, organization and wonderful people from Moscow. I am willing to invest the time and effort to compete and win at a high level. I can’t wait to come and start working.”
With a total of 679 NBA games under his belt, Barton is by far the biggest name competing in Russia after the start of the war in Ukraine.
