The club decided to change course after a defeat to UNICS in the VTB League, which left CSKA Moscow third in the standings. Emil Rajkovic is no longer the head coach of the Russian team, and Andreas Pistiolis will replace him on the bench.
The Greek coach worked for eight years with CSKA Moscow as Dimitris Itoudis’ assistant and won two EuroLeague but now returns to take the head coaching position.
“After two years since my last practice with CSKA, a total of eight years being part of this incredible organization, I am returning as the head coach of the team! Back then, our president, Andrey Vatutin, said that he was sure that our paths would cross again, and as always, he kept his word! I have the privilege to lead a team destined to win and prevail in every game! 80 titles by the club give the perfect understanding of the greatness of this team. We will hustle for every ball, play hard, and make everyone feel what it means to play against CSKA. We are here to win,” Pistiolis said.
He left CSKA in 2022, accepting Galatasaray’s offer to begin a full-time career as a head coach, and worked in the Istanbul club until May last year.
