Parting ways with Partizan Belgrade as his contract expired after eventful years, Aleksa Avramovic caught attention in the EuroLeague as one of the most consistent and versatile guards in recent memory.
However, he decided to move to the VTB League to join CSKA Moscow, not anymore a EuroLeague team since when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. In an extensive interview with Mozzart Sport, the 29-year-old playmaker commented on his decision to move away from the EuroLeague.
“Maybe it’s a little surprising for others, but for me, it’s a totally normal decision to come to CSKA. Whether they play in the Euroòeague or not… I didn’t think about it, nor was it too much of a “wow factor” for me to play in the EuroLeague. I came to the club to play basketball. [This is] where I will feel good and enjoy myself”, the on-ball defensive specialist mentioned.
Describing CSKA Moscow as “one of the biggest clubs in Europe, certainly next to Real Madrid in terms of the organization”, he quickly recalled his black-and-white days. “[It was a] fantastic experience, there is no doubt about it. I left Partizan as a better basketball player and a better person. I worked with Zeljko [Obradovic] and it was a privilege. I will definitely follow Partizan in the EuroLeague”, he said.
Aleksa Avramovic also shared his opinion regarding Svetislav Pesic leaving the national team’s helm. “I need to talk to him. I don’t want to believe that it happened. Not me, but all the players. I hope he will remain as a coach. I think he knows everything”, he said about his experienced countryman.
Serbia’s No.30 also described how it was guarding his idol. “He literally needs a millimeter of space. I’ve never played against a player like that. I wish I had a few more games to get to know him better and do something better, but it’s a miracle. He shoots the ball, and you don’t see it! I’m always ready to stop the shot, but it’s all in vain, he always finds that little space he needs”, he said about Steph Curry.
The experienced Serbian guard is coming off a bronze medal experience at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, losing against Team USA in the Semi-Finals but winning the 3rd place game over Germany. During the whole event, he collected 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
