Zenit St. Petersburg beat CSKA Moscow 90-77 and forced the visitors to their second loss of the season (14-2), while improving to 13-3.
Stefan Markovic was the leading scorer for his team, with 19 points and 9 assists, while Janis Timma’s contribution of 14 points was also important.
Vitaly Fridzon’s 13 points and James Augustine’s 12 weren’t enough for CSKA, that needed more against the fellow Russian team.
The hosts took charge early on, leading Dimitris Itoudis’ team 23-16 after the first 10 minutes. With a 3-pointer by Markovic, Zenit’s lead expanded to 9 points at 17′ and the team even manage to stay up 50-35.
The visiting team kept following in the second half and as Zenit started pulling away even more, the deficit was too much to cover.
