Zenit St. Petersburg beat Nizhny Novgorod on the road, 97-93 and improved to 14-3 in the league’s standings and the second place, forcing Lokomotiv, that was beaten by CSKA earlier, to the third place.
Early in the second half, Nizhny trailed by only one possession, 58-55, before White and Toolson led Zenit to a big run, stretching the lead to double digits.
Strebkov and Boynton were able to bring Nizhny back into the game and Zubcic sliced the deficit to three on a 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining. Yet Stefan Markovic was able to convert one of two free throws and Boynton’s final three-point attempt missed the mark.
Enisey (8-9) defeated Kalev (4-13) in Talinn, 91-82, led by Zavoruev’s 22 points. In the final game of the day, Astana (7-10) snapped a five-game losing streak, by taking down Tsmoki-Minsk (4-12) on the road, 80-70, with Krubally reaching a double double of 23 points and 10 rebounds.
