Five players scored in double-digits as CSKA Moscow beat Kalev Tallinn 100 – 68 to further cement its hold of the first place in the VTB League standings.
Now at a 20-2 record, the defending champs were better right from the start, closing the first quarter ahead 31 – 17 and never looking back despite the absence of Nando De Colo. Semen Antonov, Cory Higgins and Andrey Vorontsevich scored 13 points apiece with the latter adding 6 rebounds.
For Kalev, Vitaly Liytuch had 12 points and Erik Keedus 11.
In Riga, Unics Kazan and VEF gave a tough battle that was decided in overtime. In the end, the Russian squad won 86 – 82 behind 16 points and 9 rebounds by Artsiom Parakhouski plus 14 points and 9 assists by Quino Colom.
Mareks Mejeris finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts.
VTB League also released an announcement following the fatal incident in St. Petersburg, that goes as follows:
“The VTB United League has asked clubs to hold a minute of silence prior to all games on Monday, April 3.
Based on initial reports from the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, there was an explosion of an unidentified explosive device around 2:40 pm inside a subway car between metro stations Tekhnologichesky Institut and Sennaya Ploshchad. There are fatalities and injuries.”
