Following the VTB League All-Star Game break, the regular season resumed with one quite impressive result.
In the “Game of the Week”, a clash between two of the championship’s powerhouses, Unics Kazan smashed Lokomotiv Kuban 93 – 65 and retained its grip on the top of the standings with a 14 – 1 record.
Jamar Smith scored 25 points and Trent Lockett 20 for the winning squad, forming a duo for which Sasa Obradovic‘s defensive plans had no answers whatsoever. Quino Colom contributed 15 points and Melvin Ejim 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Mardy Collins with 17 points plus 9 rebounds and Dmitry Kulagin who finished with 14 points, were the only players that stood out from the Krasnodar team. Loko is now 12-4 and at the third place of the standings.
The victory of Unics gave Zenit St. Petersburg an opportunity to catch up with Loko and that was the case indeed. Led by a stunning Kyle Kuric (31 points), Vasily Karasev’s team beat VEF Riga 90 – 80 in Latvia and improved to 12-4. Riga dropped to 4-11.
