Despite trailing at the halftime, Nizhny Novgorod took over the game and won 77-74 against Unics Kazan at home in Game 2 of VTB League quarterfinals, therefore, tying the best-of-five series at 1-1.
Novgorod was in front by a seven-point margin (73-66) with a minute and a half left but the guests scored five straight points bringing the game to a close finish. Although the home players were calm from the free throw line, Melvin Ejim had a chance to tie the game but fell short.
While Unics tried to play safer and focus on the paint, Nizhny was the team that established the rhythm of the game with faster ball movement which created a lot of open three-point shots and that was the crucial difference in the end.
Stevan Jelovac led the victors with 29 points and five rebounds while Jake Odum helped with 15 points and six assists. For the losing team, Quino Colom scored 20 in addition to Melvin Ejim’s 15 points.
