CSKA Moscow beat Zenit St. Petersburg 83 – 81 in Game 2 of the VTB League quarterfinals to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
With just a few seconds remaining, Kyle Hines blocked Gal Mekel’s game-tying layup attempt. Zenit had 1.8 to tie or win the game, enough time for Sergey Karasev’s to take a tough 3-point attempt from the corner. It was an airball.
Will Clyburn scored a team-high 19 points for CSKA that was minus Sergio Rodriguez. Nikita Kurbanov added 11 points plus five rebounds while Daniel Hackett scored 10, including the go-ahead four-point play for the 82 – 78 with 58 seconds remaining. Kyle Hines delivered 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks for the newly crowned EuroLeague champions.
Codi Miller-McIntyre contributed 14 points in 14 minutes to Zenit. Sean Armand scored 12 points and Anthon Pushkov finished with 10 points plus seven boards.
Zenit hosts Game 3 in St. Petersburg, Tuesday (28/5).
