Khimki Moscow gambled away its double-digit lead near the end but still logged a 79-75 win against Stelmet Zielona Gora in the first game of 2019-20 VTB League.
Stefan Jovic led the way with 16 points on 6-8 shooting (3-4 triples) while also dishing nine assists. Jonas Jerebko scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Jeremy Evans added 12 points.
Khimki was missing Alexey Shved, Anthony Gill, Timofey Mozgov, Chris Kramer, and Evgeny Valiev. For Zielona Gora, Drew Gordon scored 16 while Ludvig Hakanson helped with 13.
After a balanced first quarter with Khimki having an upper hand (16-13), the hosts went ahead 40-31 at halftime and kept the distance in the third quarter (60-51).
Although Khimki had a 13 points lead (75-62) with four and a half minutes left, Zielona Gora made things somewhat interesting cutting the gap to just three points (78-75) but it was too late to change the outcome.
