Khimki Moscow Region never looked back following a 13-0 run in the second quarter and dominated the second half for the 96-80 victory against CSKA Moscow in VTB United League action on Monday.
Making 8/9 inside the rainbow and 3/6 threes, Janis Timma banked 26 points including 14 in the first half. Alexey Shved and Jeremy Evans followed with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Darrun Hilliard went for a team-high 24 points in losing effort, Mike James posted 20 of his own.
Chris Kramer, Timofey Mozgov, Dairis Bertans sat out, but Khimki snapped its three-game skid in all competitions maintaining the grip on first place of the VTB table. Rimas Kurtinaitis’ side improved its W-L tally to 12-1.
The team coached by Dimitris Itoudis, second in the standings, fell to 10-4. Janis Strelnieks, Will Clyburn and Ron Baker were out. On a positive note, Mikhail Kulagin checked in midway through the last period after being sidelined for about three months.
An attendance record was set for the 2019-20 VTB Regular Season with 6,877 fans at the Mytishchi Arena.
