As Marc Stein of ESPN reported, Dirk Nowitzki decided to opt out of his contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
Dirk will become a free agent on July 1st and, naturally, there are many teams that will be interested in signing him. The Golden State Warriors already have the German superstar in their list as an alternative for their primary target, which is no other than Kevin Durant.
Of course, Dirk Nowitzki can re-sign with the Dallas Mavericks with a less lucrative contract that will facilitate the team’s efforts to use their salary cap in order to strengthen the team’s roster. That’s a very probable scenario and the reason the whole opt-out discussions started in the first place.
ESPN sources say that Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki officially opted out of his contract today and will indeed become a free agent July 1
